Emirates Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome

The Commonwealth Arena (more commonly known as the Emirates arena) is an indoor arena and velodrome in Glasgow.  Built for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the venue hosted badminton and track cycling events.  The indoor arena has a capacity of around 6,500 and has a hydraulically lifted 200m indoor running track.  The Velodrome has a 250-meter indoor track with a capacity of 2,500 expanding to 4,500 with temporary seating erected when required.  The Velodrome is named after Olympic and Commonwealth gold-medal winning Scottish cyclist, Sir Chris Hoy.  The venue will also host the 2019 European Indoor Athletics Championships in March next year!

Hampden

We are lucky enough to be the home of Scotland’s National Stadium – Hampden Park. With a capacity of almost 52,000, it is the home venue of the Scotland national football team and Scottish Club Queen’s Park FC. The stadium will often be used to host the latter stages of the Scottish Cup competitions. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the stadium was transformed into an Athletics arena for the various different disciplines.

Glasgow National Hockey Centre

Glasgow’s National Hockey Centre is a facility built within the Glasgow Green development for playing field hockey.  Constructed specifically for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the facility includes 2 synthetic hockey pitches, player facilities and a permanent stand for spectators.  The venue acts as the headquarters for Scottish hockey and is used by Glasgow schools for training and competitions also.

Scotstoun (Warriors)

Glasgow Club (Scotstoun) is on of the largest leisure facilities in the City.  Scotstoun Stadium has been the official home of the Glasgow Warriors Rugby Team since late 2012 and also Victoria Park Athletics Club.  Scotstoun stadium offers first class facilities for supporters and players, and is one of the best playing and training bases for Rugby.  Moreover, Scotstoun is equipped with a World Rugby approved 3G surface adjacent to the main pitch.  This is used for club, school and community activity on Warriors match-days.

Tollcross International Swimming Centre

The Tollcross International Swimming Centre served as a key sporting venue in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2018 European Champsionships. The recently refurbished venue boasts 2 large 50m Olympic sized swimming pools as well as workout facilities and a health suite. Next December, the world-class venue will host the European Short Course Swimming Championships which should bring an array of international visitors to the City again.

SSE Hydro

The SSE Hydro has been home to many major sporting events in the City over the last few years.  The venue only opened in 2013 and is situated in the heart of the city near to the River Clyde. This innovative sporting venue has a total capacity of 12,000 and hosts around 140 events every year.  The SSE Hydro is one of the busiest indoor arenas in the world and boasts a prime position on Glasgow’s skyline.

Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena

Lastly, we have The Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena which is located within the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow.  It has hosted many athletics competitions including the 1990 European Athletics Indoor Championships, boxing and badminton events.  The venue has recently been completely refurbished and now offers state of the art gym equipment and facilities to users.
