This is Glasgow at its most vibrant and cultured. Sophisticated shops, restaurants, bars and clubs mingle with grand architecture and art collections. Fashion jostles with big business here and the coolest of Glasgow folk can be found whiling away days and nights with coffee or whisky (or both) in hand, within strolling distance of the flat, at a pavement café or in a glitzy bar. Scott House is on the edge of Glasgow's historic Merchant City whose magnificent buildings have been lovingly restored in recent years, and are now home to the most sophisticated and up-market shops, restaurants, clubs and bars. |

And the delights of the UK's second largest shopping centre can't fail but draw you into the main shopping centre of Buchanan Street, Argyle Street and St Enoch's Shopping Centre, for more than a touch of retail therapy. If you fancy a bird's eye view of the city, the Glasgow City Tour on an open-topped bus starts from George Square - well worth taking during your stay. If it's culture you're looking for, there are museums, art galleries and historic buildings round every corner. Theatres too abound, with a wide variety of performances throughout the year, from serious theatre to comedy, avant garde to traditional, pantomimes to musicals. Glasgow Film Theatre is not far away, showing a specialist programme of film, TV and video, much of which can not be seen elsewhere. The latest blockbusters are available in mainstream cinemas within the city. |
Useful Local Shops
- There is a Post Office in Glassford Street. (Turn left out of the entrance to Scott House, then left and across the road at the traffic lights.)
- The nearest supermarket is a small Sainsburys next to the entrance to the Buchanan Galleries.
- If you can't be bothered to fix lunch or travel far to find it, there is Fressh Juice Bar, on Cochrane Street, serving fresh-squeezed juices and smoothies, coffee, sandwiches, soups and salads, to take away or eat there. (Turn right out of the main entrance, then right again, and 20 metres along.)
- The nearest bar (though not in our opinion the best) is The Edge on the corner of South Frederick Street and Cochrane Street.
- Just round the corner is The Italian Centre for exclusive shops and relaxed coffee bars and restaurants with a continental flavour, including Café Ostra. (Turn left out of the entrance, then left onto Ingram Street.)
- The Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) on Royal Exchange Square has a stunning collection of Art, and also has a public library with coffee bar. If you haven't brought your own laptop, internet access is available here for a small cost. (Turn left along Ingram Street at the top of South Frederick Street.)

Only a three-minute walk from Buchanan Street Subway Station, five minutes from Central Train Station, Scott House is ideally located for you to get the most out of your stay in this wonderful city. Or there is on-street parking and several car parks close by. Simply wandering around the streets, trying to understand the Glasgow accent, is a delight in itself, but to do so knowing that you have convenient and private luxury to return to can only enhance your stay.
